Capturing the Bournemouth Half Marathon: My Daughter’s First Half Marathon and My First Event Photography Experience!
As a photographer focused on weddings and portraits, event photography isn’t typically my wheelhouse. But this year, I jumped in to capture the Bournemouth Half Marathon for a special reason—documenting my daughter Ruby’s first half marathon! She achieved a fantastic time of 2 hours and 15 minutes, and I couldn’t be prouder.
The day brought a slight chill, but luckily the rain held off, and the occasional sunny break added just the right touch to the day. Bournemouth Run hosted an incredible event along a beautiful coastal route, which made it the perfect opportunity to hone my event photography skills. I couldn’t resist capturing some extra shots of the runners who looked like they were truly embracing the experience.
The course was set along the stunning Bournemouth coastline, leading runners across both Boscombe and Bournemouth Piers. This iconic route provided gorgeous ocean views and a vibrant seaside atmosphere. Designed for seasoned runners and newcomers alike, the October timing gives first-timers ample time to train over the spring and summer months, making the race achievable yet challenging. At the Bournemouth Pier Approach finish line, cheering crowds welcomed finishers with medals, finisher shirts, and an undeniable buzz of accomplishment.

Final Thoughts
Ruby Baron running her first ever Half Marathon, such a happy face for the last mile of the race.
Watching Ruby cross that finish line, surrounded by the energy of the crowd, was unforgettable. It was a great reminder of the value of documenting life’s milestones and how photography can capture not only an image but also a memory. If you’re considering participating next year, the Bournemouth Half Marathon is the perfect mix of challenge, community, and coastal beauty.
