A Fun-Filled Family Shoot at West Woods

Autumn is such a lovely time for photography. The warm colours of the trees – gold, orange, and red – create a stunning backdrop, and it’s a great season to capture special memories. I recently had the pleasure of photographing the Wheeler family at West Woods, just south of Marlborough, and what a wonderful experience it was!

West Woods is a beautiful ancient woodland, perfect for walks and exploring. In the spring, it’s famous for its incredible display of bluebells, but in autumn, the forest is full of golden leaves and soft light, making it the perfect spot for our shoot.

The Wheeler family, a group of six plus their lively dog, brought so much fun to the session. The children’s playful energy and laughter filled the woods, and their daughter’s brothers couldn’t help teasing her throughout the shoot. It was all in good fun and made for some brilliant, natural moments to capture.

Their dog also kept things interesting! We managed to get everyone in place for a lovely family shot, but just as we were ready, the dog had other ideas and ran off into the trees. It was a hilarious moment, and luckily, we still got some great photos of everyone together.

As the sun began to set and the light faded, we moved quickly to make the most of the beautiful woodland surroundings. The family’s strong bond and warmth really shone through, and it was a joy to capture those moments for them.

The Wheelers were such a fantastic family to work with, and their love for each other was clear in every photo. Autumn gave us some beautiful colours to work with, but I’m already looking forward to spring when the woods will be full of bluebells again.
